About the event

Singers wanted for AIRBORNE, a new pop-up choral piece by Verity Standen to be performed at InTRANSIT Festival.

For three days in June, a remarkable wind will blow through the borough. A wind that carries a song. You might catch it wafting gently into a café or office building, or it might pound down the street towards you with all the force of a typhoon.

Award-winning composer and artist Verity Standen is renowned for creating innovative experiences with original vocal music at their heart. For Airborne, Standen will work with groups of local singers to surprise and enchant audiences across the borough with a series of pop-up performances in secret locations between 16th-18th June. Listen out for voices on the wind.

This opportunity is open to all. There is no need to read music or have any vocal training, as Verity teaches entirely by ear. Her music draws inspiration from Eastern Europe, British folk and contemporary classical styles. Rehearsals and performances will be gently paced to allow for groups brought together to sing for lung health, such as the Kensington and Chelsea's 'Sing to Live, Live to Sing' and rb&hArts' 'Singing For breathing' groups.

Verity Standen will hold 2 evening taster sessions on 3rd and 24th May at Royal Brompton Hospital for participants to discover the artist and have a chance to shape the project with the artist. Evening rehearsals will take place on 13th, 14th and 15th June at Royal Brompton Hospital. Please email arts@rbht.nhs.uk to register your interest.

AIRBORNE is produced in partnership with rb&hArts, the arts department at Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, where Verity Standen is currently In Residence, supported by InTRANSIT, and funded by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea's Arts Grant Scheme and City Living Local Life.
