About the event

Emergence will be holding a combined art form 3 week event, tracing people’s histories and social narratives.

From 12-29 June at Together Our Gallery, 12 Old Street, London, EC1V 9BE  This event will platform an exhibition, performance, commissions and activities by practising artists with a lived experience of personality disorder: to build new audiences, encourage dialogue, challenge stigma and build artistic capacity. It is framed within London Creativity and Wellbeing Week.

1. A visual art exhibition: support artistic development and Capacity Build by providing opportunities in arts leaderships, promotion, career development, for artists who may socially isolated or marginalised as a result of PD.

Selected artists from around the UK will show their work in the gallery spaces and thus build their portfolios enabling them to achieve greater art.  This will build the resilience and sustainability of this group of artists by building confidence, self-esteem, providing meaning and purpose and increased opportunities to interact with a creative peer group and general public. Selected artists will also participate in the artist’s conversations, artist in residence and living histories, thus becoming more skilled.

2. Artists in Conversation Debates: 3, 2 hour sessions- open dialogue public debates will explore the issues around creativity and personality disorders critically in further detail.

3. An artist in residence will engage directly with the public exploring some of the issues for 1 week, with the outcomes exhibited alongside the main work.

4. A commissioned artist to visualise Emergence’s history: developing an interactive art work exploring Emergence history over 5 years and tracing the way we have challenged stigma.

5. Launch of Kayla Kavanaghs new album: Performing artist (musician) and mental health speaker regularly engaging at events from festivals to conferences across the UK. Working alongside Nigel Pease who is a Sound Engineer/Producer, with “post-show conversation” where they discuss how Personality Disorder and Creativity work so well together – from both a Service User and Carer’s perspective.

• Explore the diversity of journeys that individuals who identify with personality disorder have experienced.
• Present narratives of those who have experienced the difficulties associated with personality disorder especially the idea of extreme social exclusion
• Create an open dialogue between the public and those with a lived experience of personality disorder to raise awareness
