About the event

Explore the unique soundscapes of the Eastman Dental Hospital, where the owls are not what they seem... Through its enticing aviary, aquarium and paintings, the Hospital set out to dispel fear of the dentist from the start. The Eastman is still challenging preconceptions about oral health today. What can you expect from Sound Walk?

  • Practice deep listening techniques.
  • Find hidden corners of the Eastman and its natural surroundings.
  • Create your own field recordings with the support of an oral historian and artist team.
  • Contribute to a multi-sensory artwork, to be installed in a new treatment facility at UCLH.

It is free but booking is essential. Please RSVP to Laura Mitchison from On the Record CIC to reserve your place, ideally by 5th June.

Patients, students and staff of the Eastman Dental Hospital, Eastman Dental Institute, and Royal National Throat Nose & Ear Hospital are especially welcome. Sound Walk is offered by the Chrysalis project, an arts and oral history project honouring staff and patients of the Royal National Throat Nose & Ear Hospital, the Eastman Dental Hospital and the former Royal Ear Hospital.  Chrysalis is being run by On the Record CIC and ScreenDeep on behalf of UCLH Arts & Heritage.

If you don't fancy the Sound Walk but want to know more about the varied activities of Chrysalis, get in touch.
