About the event

The clients and staff at the Cawley Centre (Maudsley Hospital), which is a therapeutic community day treatment service for people with personality disorder symptoms, are proud to be able to display our 'Community and Isolation' art exhibition at the Maudsley Hospital's Long Gallery during June and July 2016 as part of the 'Making Space for Wellbeing Programme' in collaboration with Guy's and St Thomas' Charity.  The exhibition is the end product of an ongoing process of discussion, negotiation and collaboration between the clients and staff within the therapeutic community who have had to come together with many different ideas, harness the abundance of skills, knowledge and experience we have collectively to think about how our idea of 'Community and Isolation' fitted with the treatment ethos of the Centre, the goals of individual clients, and the wider theme of 'Connect' from the 'Five Ways to Wellbeing.'  This project has meant the community have had to come together and find a way of agreeing on what to create and how, access funding, and make use of existing resources.  The end product of the art itself will then be displayed in the Long Gallery over the summer to demonstrate the work that goes on in the Centre, the value of using art work to express our thoughts and feelings, provide opportunities to engage with the wider world, and then ultimately this art work can be displayed and discussed in the Centre for years to come.
