Death by design
About the event
Ageing populations, dispersed families, medical advances and limited NHS resources are all effecting the way we die, and yet we do not talk about our wishes with healthcare professionals or our loved ones. Helix are developing innovations to help people achieve better deaths. Helix designers will demonstrate and discuss their work ranging from redesigning the ‘do not resuscitate’ process through to imagining the hospice of the future. Your opinions and ideas will be asked for!
Helix is a joint collaboration between Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art. Our multi-disciplinary design team is uniquely placed on the frontline of healthcare, inside a large London NHS hospital. Our award winning studio is the centre point of our team’s work at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. Designed by architecture students from the RCA, our glass “box” is a space for collaborative work with patients, clinicians, designers and visitors.
