About the event

Creativity and Wellbeing Week 2015 is focusing on creativity and mental health. This welcome event is an opportunity to come together at the unique venue of the oldest psychiatric hospital in the world still functioning today. Join us to explore the impressive new Bethlem Gallery and Museum, beginning the afternoon's event with a tour of the space and the contemporary and historic exhibitions on show including Behold Continues to Retreat, curated by artist Mark Titchner. At 3.30pm there will be a roundtable discussion using the contemporary exhibition as a point of departure, contributors will include artists Mark Titchner and Iain Sinclair, Bethlem Gallery Director, Beth Elliott and London Arts in Health Forum Director, Damian Hebron.

‘Behold Continues to Retreat’ is an exhibition that combines artworks depicting uninhabited rooms, buildings and landscapes with a series of portraits placed directly opposite these deserted spaces. Bringing together Bethlem Gallery artists, renowned contemporary artists and works from the Bethlem art collection the exhibition will explore the experience of creating, observing and being observed. The discussion will examine these ideas and the wider relationship between mental health, creativity and perception.

The afternoon will conclude with refreshments and an opportunity to network with colleagues working in the field of arts, creativity and wellbeing.

The event is free but spaces are strictly limited and booking is essential.
