About the event

Tight Modern is a miniature replica of the Tate Modern and displays the work of 60 marginalised artists in a temporary gallery measuring only 6ft x 9 ft with a chimney 12ft high.  Organised by charity Creative Future, this year’s national tour will include an appearance at the ORTUS learning and events centre, a state-of-the-art venue provided by the Maudsley Charity.  The exhibition will take coincide with London’s Creativity and Wellbeing week from Wednesday 4 June – Saturday 7 June and celebrates the profound and positive impact of creativity on wellbeing.  The artists on display are selected following a national call for submissions to marginalised artists – those who find it difficult to access mainstream opportunities due to mental ill health, disability or other socially excluding circumstances.  We invite you, the discerning public, to enjoy and appreciate the fantastic array of wonderful artworks and vote for your favourite 3 pieces.  Prizes of £250, £175 and £75 will go the artists with most votes at the end of the tour in Jan 2015.

The Ortus Learning Centre is open from 8am – 6pm with directions available via this link:

Call for Submissions – deadline April 25th 2014.  If you are a marginalised artist then we’d love you to submit work for possible selection for the Tight Modern tour.  We’re looking for artworks measuring 18cm x 13cm, portrait orientated, on any theme and in any medium.  To see details of how to enter please follow this link:
